Diagnosis and treatment

Information, support and services for cancer diagnosis.

ASOP PCN > Local Support & Advice > Cancer > Diagnosis and treatment
If you have signs or symptoms that suggest cancer or a screening test result that suggests cancer, your doctor may decide to refer you on the 2 week cancer pathway, which is a pathway to exclude cancer. 97% of patients referred on this pathway do not have cancer. It is important that you keep this appointment. There are a number of tests that may be done in the hospital. These could include blood tests, scans, camera tests, and biopsies. The hospital team will explain more about these tests.  If cancer is diagnosed, the hospital team will determine the best treatment options for you. This could include surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy.
