Support for LGBT people affected by cancer

LGBT people who are affected by cancer may wish to access LGBT-specific support. Talking to someone who understands how your sexual orientation and/or gender identity can affect your experience of cancer may help you get the information and support you need.Below are some places you can go to for LGBT-specific cancer support. You can also find more general LGBT support services here.

Live Through This

Live Through This is a cancer support and advocacy charity for the LGBTIQ+ community. They provide a safe space for anybody who identifies as part of the queer spectrum and has had an experience with any kind of cancer at any stage from testing, diagnosis, treatment, remission to long term care.

Macmillan Cancer Support

Macmillan is a national charity which provides specialist health care, information, and financial support to people affected by cancer. They host an online community forum for LGBTQ+ people affected by cancer to share their experiences and connect with others.

Prostate Cancer UK

Prostate Cancer UK is a prostate cancer research, awareness, and support organisation. They host an two online community forums for LGBT people affected by prostate cancer – one for trans women with prostate cancer and one for gay and bi men, and men who have sex with men.

Out With Prostate Cancer

Out With Prostate Cancer is a group for gay and bisexual men, and trans women, which offers emotional comfort and support as well as its own wisdom and practical information to those who face the many challenges that are presented by the diagnosis of prostate cancer. Visit their website to find out more.

LGBT Walnut

LGBT Walnut is an independent support group for any LGBT person affected by prostate cancer. They meet twice a month to provide a safe space for LGBT people to talk openly about their experiences of prostate cancer and seek mutual support. Find out more by visiting their website here.
